The next Waikato Biodiversity Forum is to be held on Monday, 30 November 2009 from 9.15am-3.15pm at the Matamata Golf Course, Silk Road off Okauia Springs Rd. There are still spaces available, so if you are interested contact Moira Cursey asap 07 8465066
This is a good opportunity to learn about this important project which has just been launched on the Kaimais.
Find out about the issues, what is being planned by many agencies and the community, and gain knowledge for your own projects.

Aim of the day: Examine issues and develop recommendations for the Kaimai Mamaku Campaign.

This Forum is an opportunity for you to:-

* have fun and share ideas with others who undertake conservation related work
* establish on-going partnerships for biodiversity restoration
* highlight the projects of community groups in the area
* visit the Wairere Falls track and observe issues with the ecological health of the forest
* contribute to developing recommendations for improving the ecological integrity of the Kaimai Mamaku catchments.

Setting the Context (Iwi, Forest and Bird and DOC)
The Kaimai Catchment Project (NZ Landcare Trust )
Forest Ecology (Wildland Consultants Willie Shaw)
Coromandel Peninsula Project (EW and DOC)
Pest control and Carbon Sequestration (EW)

11.30am Fieldtrip
Fieldtrip up the Wairere Falls Track (in groups of 10 with a leader). Car pool to the carpark of the Wairere Falls Track.

12.30 Lunch at the entrance of the Wairere Falls Track (if fine). Lunch at the Golf Club if wet.
1.00pm Short reports from Forum members and local community groups (2 minutes each)

1.15pm Workshops in groups

1.15pm The Forum participants will take part in the following workshops and report back to the wider group. The reporting will be written up and sent to Forum members and attendees and key stakeholders in the Kaimai Mamaku Campaign.

All participants in four workshops to discuss “A restoration programme for the Kaimai Mamaku. What would it look like?

* Pest control – what is the best pest control regime for the Kaimai Mamaku.

* Building relationships and synergies between the Kaimai Mamaku campaign and resource management in the Kaimai Mamaku Forest and catchment areas and other conservation initiatives in the Kaimai Mamaku Forest and catchment areas.

* Community participation – How to encourage the wider community to be involved with the restoration of the Kaimai Mamaku Forest.
Plus any more topics that arise on the day.

If you would like to give a verbal update on your groups activities and achievements at the Forum meeting please indicate the following points which you will highlight in your update and return the form by email or post (see addresses above). These updates can then form part of the handouts for the meeting.

From Hamilton
As you approach Matamata turn a slight right over railway line into Burwood Road, carry on straight through roundabout into Tower Road, turn right into Springs Road and turn left when you reach the Matamata Golf Club on the left. The Golf Club is situated on Silk Road.

From Tauranga
As you approach the outskirts of Matamata turn right at the roundabout into Tower Road, turn right into Springs Road and left when you reach the Matamata Golf Club on the left. The Golf Club is situated on Silk Road.
